Amelia’s Story

Amelia is running for the Kansas House because she believes government should work for everyday people- not just the wealthy and well-connected. Like many Kansans, she understands the challenges families face as the cost of housing, healthcare, transportation, and daily life continues to rise. She is committed to listening to constituents, fighting for affordable communities, and ensuring every voice is heard in Topeka.

Amelia’s passion for public service began more than 16 years ago through campaign work and community organizing. Since then, she has worked on campaigns at the local, state, and federal levels, gaining firsthand experience talking with voters, organizing volunteers, and helping candidates connect with the communities they serve.

Her first campaign was working with Barbara Bollier during her 2010 Kansas House campaign. In 2012, Amelia interned for and later joined the re-election campaign of U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, where she gained valuable experience listening to voters and learning about the issues that affect working families every day. From 2013 to 2019, Amelia lived in San Francisco, where she continued her work in campaigns and public affairs while gaining experience working with diverse communities and navigating fast-paced political environments.

After returning home to Kansas, Amelia renewed her commitment to electing leaders who put people first. In 2022, she joined Prairie Roots to help support Democratic candidates across the state, and in 2024 she worked closely with the Johnson County Democratic Party, supporting five local campaigns. These experiences reinforced her belief that lasting change happens by listening to people, building strong communities, and working together to solve problems.

Amelia has also spent the past seven years serving as a caregiver for her 103-year-old grandmother. That experience gave her firsthand insight into the financial and emotional challenges many families face when caring for loved ones and reinforced her commitment to expanding access to affordable care and support services.

She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Kansas State University and her Master of Public Administration from University of San Francisco, building the policy and leadership background she will bring to the Kansas Legislature.
